Fiction Friday

It’s Fiction Friday what are you writing?

Here’s some of what I am working on…

The sun was beginning to set low on the horizon when I made my way to the campground I had chosen for my hunt. I always chose my hunting ground carefully.  When my clan and I settled in this small town we agreed that we would not hunt in town or close by. I always went to a bordering county, sometimes farther. I chose my prey carefully. Usually choosing secluded cabins in the woods or campgrounds.

It was the middle of fall and the night air had a chill. This night I chose a campground I’d been to a handful of times.  With the nights getting colder and the first snow only weeks away there weren’t many campers and soon there would be none at all. Tonight it didn’t take me long to find what I was looking for.

A man sat on a log beside his campfire, cleaning his shotgun. Having had centuries of practice, i was the master of silence.  I crept behind a tree and took a deep sniff, I only caught one scent. Again, I crept closer, like a cat stalking an unsuspecting mouse. All my senses were on alert.  The cool breeze blew my prey’s scent to me. I inhaled deeply. His scent made my skin tingle and my mouth water in anticipation of the taste of blood. Suddenly i was very thirsty and could wait no longer.

Creeping silently behind him, I grabbed the hunter, covering his mouth so he couldn’t scream and alert any campers that may be nearby.

“Don’t try to fight. It will only make this worse for you.” I said to him. My voice low and predatory. “You won’t remember any of this so just relax.” The hunter relaxed and went limp. I sat with him in my arms and ran a finger up and down the vein in his neck.  Feeling his blood run through it.

In my feeding I am different than most vampires. Others stalk their prey, feed and leave them for dead. However, feeding to me was as satisfying as any sexual act. I took my time when i fed. I took great care to cause as little harm as possible. I treated my prey with as much respect as I could under the circumstances.

Tonight my heart was pounding, it had been too long since I’d last fed. With my breathing low and heavy I sank my fangs deep into the hunter’s throat.  I was filled with ecstasy the moment his blood flowed into my mouth. I groaned with pleasure. As I drank I thought about the girl in the park. I didn’t know her name but I knew one day she would be mine. I thought of her beautiful long red hair. I thought of what it would feel like to take her to my bed and make love to her until we were both spent of any and all energy.  I imagined it was her blood I was drinking. I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn’t realize the blood had stopped flowing. It was my first kill in decades.

It’s Christmas Box Day

Today was the day! My mom and I did our shopping for our Christmas boxes. It’s always so much fun. We go to the dollar tree and load up a shoe box size tote with fun things and some practical things.

We always chose to do a girl so we get girlie hair things. We add fun things like note pads. Pens and pencils. Fun little games.  This year we found some fun little bracelet making kids. We also get useful things such as toothbrushes and toothpaste, soap, wash cloths, deodorant.

It all fits 🙂

Here is the loot. Hard to believe all that fit into the box.

If you are interested in doing a box follow the link below. Time is running out.

Have you ever taken a day to just ignore the world and decompress?

Yesterday was my day for decompression. After doing the few things I needed to do, I just chilled. I didn’t really talk to anyone. I just existed.

Sometimes it’s nice to just be alone and just ‘be’

It doesn’t have to do with anyone. It’s just a need to exit the world and clear my own mind that sometimes gets so cluttered stress begins to collect when there was no stress there begin with.

I should do it more often

A Weekend in Vegas

Finally getting a chance to post some pictures from a very fun weekend.

The fun started with a 6 hour drive from my home in Arizona to Las Vegas, Aside from a little rain the trip was uneventful.

The first stop was at the famous Gold and Silver Pawn store.

Sadly none of the guys were there so we had to settle for pics with cardboard Rick.

The shop is pretty interesting. I’d never been. Wasn’t really interested but my friend wanted to go so we went.

That evening we had a great time with friends, I finally got to meet Wendi, and other writers at an authors round table. We discussed bringing your characters to life. It was very interesting and informative.

Finally Saturday came. The day I had been looking forward to for weeks.

The Vegas Valley Book Festival. I was so excited to get my Bonds of Blood and Spirit books signed again. But that would have to wait. The first stop was at Alexia Purdy and Katie Salidas’ table.

After I went in search of a couple other people I was looking for I got a message on my phone saying “Come back I need a picture with you!” LOL Ok Katie. So here is Cutie pie and I.

So then naturally I had to have one of both of the girls

After all that fun I was getting a little concerned because I couldn’t find Megan Duncan. I asked Katie if she’d seen her and was pointed in the general direction. Oddly I didn’t even think to get her picture. But I did get a book 🙂

My loot

After all of that funness was finished I headed over to the real reason for my visit to Vegas.

The Bonds of Blood and Spirit table with my friends Deborah Dorchak and Wendi Kelly 🙂

Enmity (The ArcKnight Chronicles #3)
Releases Dec. 8th, 2015:

“Well, you need to remember everything you’ve been told about the neutral area between strongholds. The Outlands of Temple are cursed. Yes, it’s a large city and thrumming with people, but it’s also a supernatural focal point. A vortex of some sort that attracts people. Normal and supernatural alike.”
I gulped. “So it rains here all the time. Why would anyone want to stay here?”
Ephrem rubbed his face, scratching his chin.
“Look, I don’t know how much they’ve told you, but like I said, it attracts people. It attracts all sorts of unsavory people too. That’s why it’s dangerous to go traipsing around this place at night. Actually, it’s not safe at any time. No one leaves willingly, either. This place is like… I don’t know… like the strongest magnet in the world. It draws you in, latches onto you and never lets go. People are warned to never come here. Only those of superior supernatural powers are ever able to break the hold it has over them.
I stared at him in horror. “What? Are you saying I’m stuck here?”
He frowned, letting his eyes drop down to his coffee as he added sugar and cream to it. Stirring furiously, he took a moment before answering me.
“Technically, yes.”
~Lily & Ephrem – The ArcKnight Chronicles
“My Lady, I cannot leave you here alone. It’s not safe.”
I whipped my eyes open and glared at him. “I told you I was banished. You can stop with the formalities and get. I don’t have time to waste on a pathetic royal guard. Especially a MarkTier. I’m okay on my own.”
“If you come with me, I know a safe place where you can get out of the rain and get warm.”
I laughed. It came out more hysterical than I intended, but I was not in a mood to keep it together any longer. The fact that he offered me any shelter at all, most likely his home, was gracious, yet the knowledge that it was most likely on ArcKnight territory made the offer even more bittersweet. I was banished not only from the royal ArcKnight palace but from lingering on any of the pack’s territories, which included a substantial chunk of the city.
I was truly alone now.
“You’d be punished for harboring a non-citizen… a traitor like me. I can’t. You know I can’t.”
He held out his hand. It glistened with water, for he was soaked to the bone, just like me. The cold rain didn’t affect him at all. I was the one shivering and on the verge of hypothermia, and yet he waited patiently.
“It’s beyond the ArcKnight border. I promise.” His eyes gleamed in the momentary moonlight sneaking past the storm clouds above. They were breathtaking and unusual. I’d never seen another shifter with eyes like his.
It may be beyond the ArcKnight stronghold, but they weren’t the only pack ruling the city.
“But the MarkTiers….”
“They have no jurisdiction there either.”
Staring at him in disbelief, I let my eyes linger on his for an eternal moment. His offer brought more questions to my mind than anything else. Even so, there was something there that held me in a trance and beckoned me to follow. Taken in by that hypnotizing cobalt sea, I reached out, accepted his hand and let him lead me through the murky city paths I’d never trodden, deeper into the unknown.
This place was now my new home, and it was nothing but strange and frightening.
But what choice did I have?

Operation Christmas Child

This is my favorite time of year because I get to participate in Operation Christmas Child.

Sadly there are children all over the world who get no Christmas at all. So Samaritan’s Purse started this project as a way to give kids a Christmas.

Have you ever wanted to do something? Anything? But don’t know what to do? Here is your way to give a Christmas to a child who wouldn’t otherwise have one.

You can do it how ever you want. I go to the dollar store and get a shoe box size plastic tote and I fill my box with everything from travel size toiletries to small games and toys. You can do what ever you want.
