Finding The One…

our-church-2

Did you think I was talking about a man? Ha! No, well kinda…2 years ago my family and I left the church we were attending. There was a political uprising and our Pastor was fired. Sadly the whole thing was a mess and there was another pastor waiting in the wings…not how it’s suppose to be done but that’s life. Our pastor went about things and eventually started his own church. Anyway, my family and I decided to look at other churches. Our first choice stuck. I’ve been going to church my whole life and never, since childhood, have I felt so at home in a church. The people are are amazing. Everyone is so friendly. They actually make you feel as if you are a family.  We’ve been at this church for 2 years now and I can’t imagine ever going somewhere else. Yesterday, after 2 1/2 years we voted in our new pastor. The previous pastor left to start his own church, at least that is my understanding. Pastor Heath answered the  view of call and came to preach. He was awesome. Kind of nervous, which is understandable, but his message was awesome. It was about unrealistic expectations, which I found to be very fitting. As you can imagine there are people out there who will expect the new pastor to be just like the previous pastor or the interim pastor we have had. I kind of feel like he was saying “I am me, I am not them and don’t expect me to be.” Anyhoo, after the service we had a luncheon and Pastor gave his testimony. After a Q&A session he and his family were taken upstairs and we cast our votes. It was a silent vote. We marked yes or no on a slip of paper we were given and they were counted. It was almost a unanimous vote yes.

We are all so excited to have Pastor Mike as our shepherd. His first official Sunday will be April 24th and sadly I will be out of town at a book festival.

Holiday Weekend 2015

25993602-Awesome-stamp-Stock-Vector-awesome-job

Did you have a great holiday weekend? I sure did. Though there are a few aspects of the weekend I can’t seem to understand, it was, all in all, a great weekend.

Thursday started with some fun at my moms house. Trying to make my grandma’s Norwegian pancakes turned out to be a disaster, which is odd since they have come out every other time we’ve made them. Oh well, we had regular pancakes instead. Then we watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving day Parade. When I watch parades I always get transported back in time to my high school days when we, a marching show band, played holiday parades in between competitions. What is a show band you ask…Glee for high school marching bands in California. Then came the dog show. That is always a fun thing to watch. Congrats to Best in Show winner Charlie the Skye Terrier, he was adorable.

Thanksgiving dinner was really good. Rather than spending all day cooking a meal that takes 10 minutes to eat, and since it was just 3 of us, we decided to let the casino do the cooking. The line was long but it moved fast. I took these while waiting.

They always do awesome holiday decorations.

Friday, even though I had to work, was just a quiet day for me. Sometimes a girl just needs to take a day and keep the socializing to a minimum and just be. There is nothing wrong with doing that. It has nothing to do with anyone or anything other than the person who just needs to sit back and “Be”. I did get a few blog posts done for my book blog. That was a fun thing to do.

Saturday I did some shopping 🙂 Got a few Christmas decorations. Hug out 🙂 did basically a whole lot of nothing really since I had woken up with a migraine. I just keep a low key and chilled.

That brings us to this Sunday morning…..

Have a glorious day 🙂

Happy Thanksgiving

What are you thankful for?

I am thankful for my loving family, the good health of all I love, and a great life.

I am also thankful for some wonderful friends old and new. Friends I barely knew who have turned into dear friends. Wonderful talks, even if they did go from instagram to comparing aches and pains 😉

I am also very thankful for my church, my church family and the love of an AWESOME God.

Happy Thanksgiving all and here’s to a wonderful holiday season.

My 2013 Year Review

Image

My year started out just like any other year. Same ole same ole. Work was going well, aside from the loss of my boss and friend. That broke my heart. Family was good. As we did the year before my niece and I started our plans for our trip to Comic-Con in San Diego. In March my volunteer work came to an end as I was kicked out of the group for reasons I am still unclear of. No big loss there really.

Image

In may my mom and I made a trip to Phoenix to see Chris Tomlin in concert at Grand Canyon University. Check one off my bucket list. It was a great couple of days with my mom shopping and seeing this concert. The energy in the stadium as we all praised God was amazing.

Finally July came and my niece and I were off on our road trip to San Diego.

This trip is always so much fun. There is never a minute that there isn’t something happening somewhere in downtown San Diego. Once we arrived we hung out at the convention center for a while as we had some time before picking up our friend at the airport.

I found this while going upstairs to pick up our badges 🙂

We saw the Vampire Diaries cast again

We saw the Once Upon a Time cast

Image

We also got to see part of the Once Upon a Time in Wonderland pilot.

and there there were the headless horsemen from Sleepy Hollow

Image

The whole trip started with a midnight showing of “Psych The Musical”

Image

We also saw the True Blood panel…minus Alexander Skarsgard and Stephen Moyer.

I could spend hours going on about what we did and who we saw.

The Walking Dead cast showed up at the Hilton

In at the end of August my heart fell apart and part of my world ended.  My dad passed away. I can’t tell you how it feels to be 2 states away when your parent is slipping away. That was the worst phone call I’ve ever gotten. I really had no idea what to do. I just sat here waiting for a call back that my dad made it. Sadly that wasn’t the second call I got. So I went to my moms house and cried on her shoulder.  In September I flew to Houston to say goodbye to my dad for the last time.

In the process I did get to see some family I hadn’t seen in a long time

My amazing uncle 🙂

And THEN…In October my mom and I again went to Phoenix. This time to see Stephen Curtis Chapman with Laura Story and Jason Gray.

So as you can see it’s been a good year mixed with a lot of sadness.

Goodbye 2012

Happy-New-Year-2013-HD-Wallpaper-6

2012 started as uneventful as any other year.  In February my niece and I started talking about going on a trip. At first we thought about going to Atlanta to see the set of The Vampire Diaries but that was going to be a little too expensive. So then we started talking about going to Comic-Con International in San Diego. Just a short 6 hour drive away. No problem. I said cool lets do it.  From February on our lives were all about Road Trip 2012 and what a road trip it was.

Our first stop when we arrived in San Diego was at the convention center and of course we had to take our pictures with the sign. Who wouldn’t?

Then we drove up to hotel circle and picked up our badges a day early. These are the epic bags you get for free. I think she traded for her Hobbit bag (I can’t remember). I got VERY lucky and got a TVD bag . You don’t get to pick what bag you get. They don’t even show you the front of it when they hand it to you and there are a dozen different bags so I was lucky to get the only bag I wanted.  Ok I would have settled for a Supernatural bag.

The next day started bright and early. We got in the Hall H line at 6am to see the cast of Twilight at 11am. Some people find it a little crazy to get up at the crack of dawn to sit in a line half the day but until you’ve done it and experienced it you will never understand just how much fun it actually is. We met so many cool people and lets face it we’re all a bunch of geeks there for the same reason. Not to mention the fact that if you aren’t in that line by at least 8am you won’t get into the hall.

Saturday at SDCC was freeking AMAZING! We didn’t have badges for Saturday but I’d found out (on Twitter) that the Extra TV show was setting up a stage right near the convention center and was having celebrity panel interviews every day of the convention. It took forever to find out what day which stars would be interviewed. So we got to the Extra TV stage at 7am, we were determined to be in the front row…and we were. Although we sat there all day, it was a lot of fun. We met some really nice people. Talked to the really cool security guards and met the stars from the Extra TV show.  We also watched actor Kevin Bacon’s brother Michael do sound checks with their band.

Sunday was another super early day. We were in the Hall H line at 4am. We had several panels we were going to see that day and once again met some great people.

After Comic-Con I didn’t expect much to happen for the rest of the year.

I’d been a financial supporter of ISF, Ian Somerhalder Foundation, for a while, then I got involved in supporting this amazing little company called Built Of Barnwood. Owned by Ian and his brother.

check them out http://www.builtofbarnwood.com/  http://www.facebook.com/reclaimedbythesomerhalders

I got involved in this little group called the BOBArmy. We are a small group who all work together to support and promote this little company and it’s owners. I’ve made some amazing and lifelong friends. One of my co-volunteers/best friends/sisters and I started a blog for the company which became the only official blog for the company. We’ve done a few fundraisers as well. It’s a labor of love. We love our Somerhalders and we love each other.

Other things that happened in 2012…

Weight loss. I started in February at 265lbs in a size 26/28. Now at the end of December and the end of the year I am down to 188lbs and in a size 18.  33 more to go til my goal. The only problem with losing weight is that it sucks for the pocket book, however, buying new clothes is fun.

So that’s about it. On to 2013

Happy Birthday Dad!

Tomorrow is my dads birthday. So I wanted to do something really special though he’ll probably kill me. Oh well he’ll get over it right?

Me and my dad

I don’t have a lot of pictures of me and my dad together because they are all in albums and I just haven’t gotten around to putting them on cd’s or on the computer. So the few I do have I’ll post.

Here’s my dad and I not long after I was born

How cute was I! Oh yeah this is about my dad…How cute was my dad!

My dad and I in Hawaii

I know..hard to see. I think it was about 1982ish. Photo quality being what it was in the 80’s you’ll forgive me.

Moving forward a lot of years. Dad and I at the Grand Canyon

and the bets picture of all. The one that belongs in a museum. The photography award winning photo of 2011.

That’s what we did to him on his 65th birthday last year. He was such a good sport.

So..Happy 66th birthday dad! I love you and I hope you forgive me for this.

Family Isn’t Just Blood

I’m a member of this AMAZING volunteer group of women. We are called The BOBArmy. What does that stand for you ask? We are the Built of Barnwood army of volunteers that help promote and spread the word about this little family owned company, but that isn’t all we do.  We also stand up for each other and protect each other. Most especially the Somerhalders and the army kids. Once your cross the line to threaten, bash or bully one of the Somerhalders or one of our kids…You better watch out because we will come after you. We are the BOBArmy after all.  One of the products Built of Barnwood produces is crosses. Really wonderful crosses.

These are 2 of the 4 I own. I won’t go into the story of the company that’s for another post. Anyway, I along with my friend Becka run the official company blog. We post news, products and company information. Our posts go to Twitter and Facebook automatically and if we choose we click the little g+ button.  So today we find out that someone on Twitter is bashing one of the youngest owners of the company, now mind you he’s 12, saying some pretty mean things about crosses, religion and pretty much the company in general. Well then in comes one of our other kids trying to defend his friend whom he calls his “big bro”. Now this little guy is 7 years old.  This person said some pretty ugly things making our little guy cry. Really?  Ok now you’ve done made mamma bears furious.  We don’t care where you’re from. We don’t care about your race, religion or lack of , or your sexual orientation. What we do care about is our family because that is what we are and when someone hurts one of us you hurt all of us because we love each other like sisters.  That is why I say family isn’t just blood.
